Rogers Road Chapter
We moved into this house on Rogers Road in Chapel Hill in 2009. The first time we walked in we knew this room would be perfect to write, jam and record music.
For the first four years we were working during the week — playing gigs on weekends, jamming and rehearsing at night. We began to set up this studio, and around 2014 we left our corporate jobs to record full-time.
It was overwhelming at first — a lot of hours in this room, a lot of writing and re-writing music. It gave us time to focus on our songs, break them down, be critical and try our best to make them better.
It was a lot of fun and a lot of hard work at the same time. All the songs we played, all the things we rehearsed, all the tracking we did in this room. And then more writing and re-writing. A lot of learning too, in setting up the studio. Learning along the way, which was fun. It makes for a longer process when you’re learning along the way.
One of the best parts was the fact that we could go in here whenever we felt creative and record something. Creativity could come to us naturally instead of feeling like we had to get the perfect take that day. We could always try to improve on a song tomorrow.
Today marks the end of the Rogers Road part of our story. Thanks to all our friends, family, and bandmates who shared many great memories in this room. Chris is heading to grad school in Athens, GA tomorrow, and Mike is a badass trophy husband in Nashville. More to come, we look forward to sharing more music with you all in the future. — Mike
